Experience has shown through a number of serious case reviews that in what ever setting you find vulnerable adults, do not make assumptions on the need to safeguard.

Please be reminded that if you have concerns about an adult who you feel may not be able to look after themselves or their dependants, Northamptonshire County Council Adult Care Team can provide advice and support. Anyone can contact them, be it the Police, Health Professionals, neighbours, family or friends on 0845 124 4500.

The Adult Care Team are also the central point for receiving referrals/notifications if a vulnerable adult is suspected of being abused, or is believed to be at risk of being abused. These cases are passed to the county's Safeguarding Adults Team.

Although many definitions of 'vulnerable adult' can be found, in these cases the agreed definition from the Northamptonshire Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Board is, 'any person aged 18yrs or over, who may be unable to care of themselves, or protect themselves from harm or being exploited'.
